PRO-BUSH CONSERVATIVES CIRCULATE CELEBRITY BOYCOTT LIST

by Patrick Patterson, New York correspondent.  [May 22, 2003]

[HollywoodInvestigator.com]  During the Clinton years, many Democrats equated opposition to Clinton (and his policies and wars) to being 'unpatriotic' and 'anti- American.' They asserted that those supporting impeachment were attacking the Constitution -- although impeachment is a Constitutional process! Republicans argued that criticizing a president was a patriotic exercise of free speech -- even as the Clintons tried to suppress criticism via intimidation tactics such as Filegate.

After the White House changed hands, many Republican and Democratic rank and file changed tunes. Democrats have rediscovered civil liberties and patriotic opposition, while Republicans equate criticism of Bush (and his policies and wars) as being unpatriotic and anti-American.

Yet presidents are mere public servants, and criticizing, lampooning and mocking our politicians -- in times of peace or times of war -- is valuable in reminding them of their "servant" status, and in protecting us against encroaching state power. We only wish celebrity and talk radio criticism was on a more bipartisan (i.e., less hypocritical) basis.

The below celebrity boycott list, circulating the internet, was submitted by Jon Alvarez. Some of his listed celebs are ignorant, silly, obnoxious, and even hypocritical -- but at least they posses the virtue of not being politicians.

Although we believe celebs should bear responsibility for their comments (If you can't stand the heat -- shut up!), we take no position on boycotts. We trust our readers will boycott, buy from, or ignore Mr. Alvarez's list according to the dictates of their conscience.

From Jon Alvarez:

"The following celebrities have betrayed America and are on a boycott list.  Their products will not be purchased, we will support them no longer!
